Update on 1920's Bungalow Living room and Branch hanging lamp

I could in some ways call these pics before and after, But I think its more the Progress of the 1920's Bungalow at this point. I don't yet know how to put links into my post. But you can scroll down and see Pic's of this 1920's Bungalow we purchased and are going to turn it into the cutest lil rental home. Our daughter and Grandson are our first renters.

Due to space we came up with the cutest idea...a hanging lamp from the branches of a dead tree that we took down in the back yard.

The lamp serves two purposes. One to give light to that corner of the room. And two the corners need trim! the people who dry walled the corner's did a very poor job. As we are fixing the roof and porch we improvise on the inside until my husband can get to it. This room is done on a budget. The lamp came from the dollar store for only $6 and the hanging kit cost $12.00 we held it in place with twine and then twined down the cord so it would blend.

It lights up this corner and add's light to the pictures. My daughters taste run's a bit different then mine. But she does love some of the older things. I told her she could hang crystals from the branches by the light to add some bling and sparkle!

Here is the livingroom 'BEFORE' we did anything...you can see the left corner by the T.V needs help. Painting this room with its 10 ft ceilings was quiet the chore. there was also different colored paint on all the trim! so all that needed to be painted as well. See how dark the right corner of the room was. There is a wonderful big tree that shades this side of the house most of the day!

And this is after! we picked a neutral beige color that would go with many decors. with this room being small, it made the room bigger and yes, brighter.

Before....

And after, sigh this pic came out blurry and I was unaware.

So much brighter and lighter.

We switched out the glass coffee table. it was under the window in one of the before pics. it was NOT 'lil man friendly'. My grandson is all boy and when he leaned the glass went off!!! and well it was like a huge danger zone. because this is a small cottage livingroom I found a bench I thought was perfect...for this space. Then we added a vase filled with seashells and clear stones.

My grandson thought it was perfect for this space... Yeah!

We decided to go with a subtle beach cottage feel. this in part was due to the curtains we found. they are called 'Tropical beach' and come from Walmart. In hunting for curtains in a budget friendly price range I was dissapointed in the selection available...these spoke to us...and so the decor changed to fit.

We added Branches behind the T.V as well. I had a wonderful idea to hang snapshots on these branches. By simply punching a hole in the corner and then using twine to hang them from the branches. (this is my daughters space..so I can only suggest :) I also told her that it could be alot of fun to choose seasonal snapshots. Like fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, etc etc  Branches are a fun way to decorate...and there free!

This was a wonderful 'find' it is the actual wooden round a big Brick of cheese comes in. Made into a lil end table. I added a lil fall decor below.

Just a lil added Holiday theme. My daughter tends to lean towards, white's and red's, blacks and browns.

I fell in love with these hearts made from a old quilt. They were only $1 each :)

So much contrasting color...this is before...

Now more neutrals....I like this so much better!

I think this was a major improvement! A close up at the tropical beach curtains and the basket for magazines...and did you notice My grandson's frog...he seems happier as well in this space.

Thanks for stopping by. Now we need to get to work on the master bedroom. It is a lavender room at this moment :)

Have a wonderful Saturday!

The Prayer

I stumbled across this song. And even tho I have heard it many times... this time I heard it when I needed to.  And these two lovely voices...made my night as the beauty of there voices, the music and lyrics...touched my soul and heart.

The above picture was takin with my Cell phone... On a july evening when I needed to feel the lords touch...at just this moment...the sun peaked thru the clouds...and then moments later it dissapeared... but in that moment looking up I felt the lords loving embrace...I was not alone.

Have a wonderful weekend. and may love, peace, hope and Joy...the beauty of life find you.....

The Batman room / Before and After

We have one Grandson, and 3 Granddaughters. With a 4th Granddaughter due in October. This lil man is outnumbered! But he Loves his cousins. He turned 4 the end of August!
The last 20 months he has shared a room with his mom. She was going to school in Seattle as well as working and the cost made it so they had to room with his Auntie. His simple request? He wanted a room...a room all to himself.

And he had high hopes..that it could be a Batman room!!! So his Momma and me studied this room (In this lil 1920's Bungalow)

The ceilings here are normal hieght, it isnt huge...but what a fun closet for toys...it needed help! and even tho he Liked having his own room...could we possibly on a budget make it his Batman room? (this is the before pic)

He sure wished we could! we started by painting his room a soft light grey. This did not impress him much! he loves Blue....

However, the final result's....had him so excited! (after pics)

We cannot take credit for this painted mural being 'our' idea, My daughter found it on a blog and asked me if I could do it! I Dont know the name of the blog. however they said they got this idea from the internet and looking at stencils.... I just put the pic on my laptop and started painting..with yardstick in hand...

It made the room light and airy...fun and all Batman! then we brain stormed about a headboard...and 'YES' this is our own idea....

We painted on a Batman headboard and then stenciled his name into place! and since he knows that was his name and since he loves loves batman....

He sure did love his Mommy and me for doing his 'Batman Birthday room' :)

Before...

And after...

Before....

And after...and he loved all the blue we brought back in...

I will be turning his lamp into a batman lamp and will show that DYI project as soon as the fabric arrives :)

Gotham city and a Bat bed....It was fun to do....

Before......

And after!!! wouldnt you agree, this room is light and airy and so much fun! the valances were sewn up only costing $6 and the black closet curtain..(BTW that is his bat cave!!!) is a black fabric shower curtain for only $10

We love this lil man, and all his lil facial exspression. he is ALL boy and these pics were takin for his 4th birthday by a friend of my daughters a up and comming photographer... since our lil man doesnt sit still much..she did an amazing job capturing him...and all this, was so worthwhile to see the look on his face...as he saw his batman room....

Even woody and pals...are very happy and content (can you imagine what goes on in this lil room at night??? *big smile*)

Inside the 1920's Bungalow...before and after's

This lil 1920's bungalow...is bigger then it looks.

So would you like to take a peak inside? I dont know if you could call these pictures 'after pic's'...but they are after alot of scrubbing and cleaning.

Before in the kitchen dinning area...

And the Kitchen and dinning after. This lil Bungalow has 10 ft ceilings in most of the home.

Before...

And after. Down the road with window treatments and new carpet we will show these area's again. The China cabinet use to be Pine. We wanted to keep it in the family. It use to be my Mom's...and yet noone had a spot for it. My daughter loves the color red...and so we decided to paint it.
Yes, Yes, I know..who would paint a beautiful pine china cabinet!!!
(Before pic)
But to sell it, we wouldn't get much...and so the decision was made. Besides, my mom also loved red...and I could see her smile at the results.

 And after....

Underneath the red, we painted white and black. When we distressed the cabinet these colors popped through.

I love how it work's in this Bungalow and how well it goes with My daughter's table and chair set that we did a year ago. Notice how we have two wood chairs and 2 iron chairs? with the red and white fabric it pulls the china cabinet and dinning set together as if they were made for each other.

This part of the Bungalow was already remodeled. we are not going to change it...I would have done a real cottage kitchen. But my daughter loves the more modern feel.

And that brings us to the utility room off the kitchen...
Because the kitchen is small, we wanted to make part of this space, user friendly with the kitchen.
Alot of scrubbing went on here. As we are fixen the oustide of this home first, we just needed to scrub and shampoo carpets and get the inside...cozy and live able...Utility room before.
And Utility room after. I choose to put a fabric shower curtain up to divide the space in this area. It works fantastic...Easy fix for on a budget.

Peak a boo... and there is the washer and dryer area now.
Thanks for visiting, Hope your Monday is wonderful in every way!
